Earlier this week we had a chat with Alex Jones, a Middle Distance Triathlete (PhysioKinesis UK is a proud sponsor) and Personal Trainer when he popped in to see us. He caught us mid selfie-taking session and was kind enough to take our Quitting Sugar blog annoucement photograph for us because we were clearly struggling and laughing far too much to get one that wasn't blurred.
Chatting with him about our plans for Quitting Sugar he gave us some tips which we thought we would share in the first of many "Ask Alex" questions we will have.
When quitting sugar the first weeks are very tough.
Cinnamon is very useful during this time because it helps to regulate your blood sugar. Add Cinnamon to your porridge or yoghurt or make tea from sticks of Cinnamon. Equally taking a teaspoon tip of Cinnamon powder a few times throughout the day will help too.
Don't eat too much fruit at this stage because fruit contains natural sugar and will stimulate the desire for sweetness. Bananas are good because they aren't too sweet and provide a source of energy.
Keep hydrated.
See treats as treats and not as part of your daily consumption. Occasional treats can be introduced when you have gotten past the first few weeks because by this stage the cravings and dependence on sugar has reduced significantly to the point where you will probably not want one.
