Reflexology for Babies

Is your baby suffering from colic, teething or restless?

Babies love to be touched and cuddled, especially when they are needing comfort and reassurance.  Most babies enjoy having their feet stroked and gently massaged, much like adults do.

By focussing on certain zones of the feet and applying gentle pressure to these, babies can be calmed and relieved of discomfort while enjoying closeness and bonding with you.  Sessions should last on average around 10 minutes and be fun and relaxing.

For newborns and smaller babies, lie them on your lap with the soles of the feet facing you.  For larger babies sit on the floor or your bed with your legs either side with the soles of their feet facing you.  For ease of working,  raise their feet by resting them on a rolled up towel.  For comfort, place a blanket beneath them so that should they fall asleep they can easily we wrapped and carried gently to their bed.

Shake a small amount of baby powder onto your hands and smooth across the soles of both feet.  Baby powder allows the fingers to move smoothly across the surface of the skin as creams and lotions can be too slippery and cold.

Working on both feet at the same time and using the pad of your thumb, begin by gently pressing and holding the solar plexus point for a few moments.  This has a soothing and calming effect.  Continue by gently stroking and massaging the zones on the soles of the feet, taking care not to be too firm but equally not too light as this will result in some tickling.

There is no need at this age, where the bones are soft and rubbery, for more than gentle rubbing and massaging but the benefits and effects will be just as wonderful.

Wishing you a wonderful, relaxing session together.
